The HG1v4 is an advanced, DIN-rail HART communications gateway for industrial and factory automation. It bridges HART field instruments to Modbus hosts, bridges HART network to HART network, provides a HART modem interface for standard device-management tools, and gives engineering staff free, secure remote access to field assets from anywhere — all configured and commissioned from a web browser, with no PC software to install.

Why HG1v4

  • Free secure remote access — reach the web UI, HART modem and Modbus data from anywhere over an outbound TLS tunnel. No VPN, no inbound firewall ports, no subscription and no per-device fees. Disabled by default; opt in per device.
  • No PC software — managed from a browser — configure, monitor and diagnose from any browser, with basic commissioning built in (set poll addresses, tags and device parameters). For deep, device-specific configuration, the built-in HART modem presents the loop to PACTware or FieldCare over a virtual COM port — no separate hardware modem.
  • Open data, cloud-ready — read live HART data as JSON over a simple web request, locally or remotely — ready for dashboards, scripts and asset systems. Direct MQTT, AWS and Azure integration is coming.
  • Cybersecurity by design — signed firmware, TLS-only remote access and role-based logins, engineered to the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and IEC 62443.
  • HART-to-Modbus gateway — expose the full data set of your HART devices to any Modbus host: SCADA, DCS or PLC, over Modbus TCP/IP, RTU or Encapsulated RTU. Multiple Modbus clients simultaneously.
  • HART multiplexer support — act as HART master for a Pepperl+Fuchs KFD2-HMM-16 multiplexer over RS-485, addressing up to 16 field transmitters per gateway. Scan, tick and import in the web UI.

Remote access is provided at no additional charge and requires no subscription. It is opt-in per device and requires the gateway to have outbound internet access. Service terms may change for future products or releases.

Configured entirely from a web browser

Every task lives in the on-device web interface — add and configure HART transmitters, generate Modbus register maps (minimal, custom or legacy-compatible), commission field devices, monitor live HART data, run diagnostics, and apply firmware updates. Connect a PC or tablet to the same network, or reach the device directly on its link-local fallback address, and you are live. No Windows software, no COM-port tool chain.

Your data, your way

The HG1v4 is more than a protocol converter. Alongside Modbus for your PLC or SCADA, it serves its live HART data as JSON over a simple web request — locally on your network or through the secure remote tunnel — so dashboards, scripts and asset-management systems can pull readings with nothing more than a standard HTTP client. Direct MQTT, AWS and Azure connectivity is on the roadmap.

Automatic, safe firmware updates

The gateway checks a signed download channel and notifies you when a new release is available. Every update is cryptographically signed and written to a redundant A/B partition — a failed update automatically rolls back to the last working image, with no site visit required.

Cybersecurity by design

The HG1v4 is engineered around the security-by-design expectations of the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and IEC 62443. Firmware is cryptographically signed with automatic rollback; remote access is an outbound, TLS-only tunnel with no inbound firewall ports, disabled by default; administrative SSH is key-only with password login disabled; and releases are version-pinned and documented. Role-based access separates view-only operators from engineers. A published vulnerability-disclosure policy and per-release Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) will follow ahead of the September 2026 and December 2027 CRA milestones.

Upgrading from an HG1 v2? It's a drop-in.

Same DIN-rail footprint, same 24 V DC supply, same HART and Modbus wiring — no panel changes, no re-terminations. Power it up in place, browse to the device, and you are running. Under the hood it is a full platform refresh: new Microchip SAM9X60 industrial system-on-module, embedded Linux, a rewritten HART timing engine, improved RS-485 isolation, and an on-board supercapacitor for clean shutdown on power loss.
